At first, I find it best to just other people vent, to let him or her get the issue at hand out into the light. So I am just there fully and listening.
Oftentimes this might be enough.
If you do this then it can help him/her to make sure that all of the emotions are put and any decision is not to take in an emotional state.
So, that’s how they can make more sensible and not so obsolete decisions.
If she or he gets stuck in negative thinking or in making a mountain out of a molehill.
Then it can be helpful to add your own perspective to ground him/her and this will help to see them.

To make him or her see that if you zoom out then things aren’t that bad really.

Such a simple gift can make that person optimistic for a week or month or so.

If you have anyone to get you out of that pessimist phase then your duty is not to drain it down though a pothole pass if forward.
What I mean is whether you are in any position helping others and getting them or supporting them in such a pessimist phase can mean a lot.
